Flat fan nozzles are one of the most widely used nozzle types in agricultural spraying. They produce a controlled, fan-shaped pattern designed for uniform coverage across the boom, making them suitable for herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, foliar feeds, liquid fertilizers, and other crop-care applications.

Flat fan nozzles produce a tapered spray pattern. The output is strongest toward the centre of the pattern and gradually reduces toward the edges. When adjacent spray patterns overlap correctly, they create a more even distribution across the full boom width. This makes flat fan nozzles particularly suitable for broadcast applications where consistent coverage is essential.

Tapered Spray Tips are also used for targeted spray applications. In multiple spray tip activation systems, achieving uniform coverage depends on proper overlap across the target area. And that's when tapered spray tips come in.

When should I choose an 80° flat fan nozzle? 

80° flat fan nozzles are particularly effective on sprayers with 10-inch spacing, offering an excellent balance of coverage, penetration, and drift control while maintaining lower boom height around 12-16 inches. The narrower spray pattern concentrates droplets into a smaller area, increasing droplet momentum and helping the move deeper into dense canopies.

How can I reduce drift when using flat fan nozzles?  

Drift can be reduced by selecting coarser droplet nozzles like TeeJet's TURBO series, lowering boom height, reducing pressure, and spraying in suitable weather conditions. Air induction flat fan nozzles are often used where drift reduction is important.

Are flat fan nozzles suitable for fungicides and insecticides? 

Yes, although some application may benefit from twin flat fan or specialty spray tips where improved canopy penetration or coverage of vertical targets is required.

What nozzle size do I need for my sprayer?

Nozzle size is selected using application rate, forward speed, nozzle spacing, and operating pressure. Matching these factors ensures the correct gallons per acre are applied across the field.
